AMAs 2018: What You Need to Know

Last week, the American Music Awards took place, and there was A LOT to dissect. Luckily, I have gone through the trouble of narrowing down the award winners, and they are:

Best EDM Artist: Marshmello

Best New Artist: Camila Cabello

Best Pop/Rock Album: Reputation (Taylor Swift)

Best Artist, Best Pop/Rock Artist: Taylor Swift

Best Country Album: Kane Brown

Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album: Beerbongs & Bentleys (Post Malone)

Best Soul/R&B AlBum: 17 (XXXTentacion)

Best Duo/Group – Pop/Rock: Migos

Best Rap/Hip-Hop Artist: Cardi B

Best Alternative Rock Artist: Panic! at the Disco

Best Pop/Rock Male Artist: Post Malone

Best Soundtrack: Black Panther: The Album

Best Country Duo/Group: Florida Georgia Line

Best Adult Contemporary Artist: Shawn Mendes

Best Latin Artist: Daddy Yankee

Overall, I wont say much about the nominees and the winners and will allow you to draw your own conclusions based on your tastes in music. I will say this though. As someone who believes that music is interpretive, and by that I mean that music is (or should be) like any other form of art in that the viewer, or listener in this case, can interpret the music in their own way. So, I have a hard time defiantly stating that one song is “better” than the other, but I definitely am aware of my opinions and will like or hate a song based on my reaction to it. So, when I see these awards shows where “the people” vote on which is “the best,” I often have difficulty agreeing with “the people’s choice.” These AMAs were especially interesting in that I pretty much disagreed with every single award winner, but that’s my unprofessional opinion.
